Improvisation as a musical technique has been found in many styles of music, dating to many musical periods. It was a major influence to Baroque composers and played a large role in the establishment of Jazz music.

This Musical Investigation will look at what role improvisation plays in the two musical styles, examining the similar and contrasting elements of each period with musical examples.
